Description

The woman is purple: she flees holding out her arms before her. The snake is green and yellow, and has yellow fangs and a green tongue. Poster for film "Schleichendes Gift: Ein Film über Geschlechtskrankheiten" ("Creeping poison: a film about venereal diseases"). The film Schleichendes Gift was released in Austria in 1946 and in other countries in 1947-1950. The director was Hermann Wallbrück and the medical adviser was the Austrian dermatologist Leopold Arzt (1883-1955)

Lettering

Mezey Entwurf U 12 III U M Another, smaller, version of this work in the Deutsches Historisches Museum, Berlin, has additional lettering in German: "Schleichendes Gift/ Ein Film über Geschlechtskrankheiten". The present impresson has no lettering: in view of the Belgian provenance of the impression catalogued, the German lettering may have been omitted from impressions intended for display in former Allied countries after World War II, and/or for overprinting in other vernaculars
