Description

Partner in S. Neumann & Co., a South African gold mining company, 1895-1904. As a war correspondent in the South African war, he made films on the battle field. Moved to London, managed mining and timber businesses, and served as Unionist member of Parliament for Penryn & Falmouth in Cornwall 1910-1918. Returned to South Africa in 1946, died in Canada in 1958. Author of The financial, statistical, and general history of the gold and other companies of Witwatersrand, South Africa (London 1892); South African mines : their position, results, and developments : together with an account of diamond, land, finance, and kindred concerns (London 1895-1896); With General French and the cavalry in South Africa (London 1902). Translator from German of Friedrich Adam Julius von Bernhardi, Unsere Kavallerie im nächsten Kriege. Betrachtungen über ihre Verwendung, Organisation und Ausbildung (as Cavalry in future wars, London 1906 and 1910)
