Notes

This work is untitled: the title has been supplied by the cataloguer.
The following description was provided by James Gardiner: "This rare image from the 1920s shows two homosexual sailors. The stereotypical passive sailor from 'H.M.S. Fairy' appears to be sitting on the knee of his rough-looking pal whose cap tally reads 'HMS Doggo'. In archaic gay slang to 'keep doggo' meant to act as a lookout for two men having sex in a public place. The card is entitled 'Raggies', archaic naval slang for 'very close friends' (OED). Postally used from Portsmouth, large British port and sent from one sailor to another? Sent to M. Danse AB on HMS Antrim. Message reads ' Just a reminder' signed Bert."
