About this work

Description

Sponsored by Nederlandse Bond tot Bestrijding van de Vivisectie and The National Anti-Vivisection Society Limited, this film promotes quantum pharmacology as an alternative to the more 'inhumane'-seeming research of animal experimentation. Footage of animal experiments is interspersed with quite detailed accounts of how molecular biology is helping to clarify the actions of enzymes and many disease processes. A part of the written synopsis accompanying the film reads: 'Currently the scientific spotlight is on the mechanism of nerve action in the brain and peripheral nervous system. Quantum Pharmacology investigates the behaviour of drugs and other biologically-active molecules from theoretical quantum mechanical calculations. Its contribution to the understanding of the actions of GABA and Histamine are shown.'
