About this work

Description

Cryptococcosis This is a high power view of a skin lesion due to cryptococcal infection in a patient with AIDS. It shows a septic lesion with infection by cryptococcus, and also by the Gram-positive bacterium, Staphylococcus aureus. The cryptococci are visible as individual yeasts. They have a small central nucleus and a large, pale-staining mucoid capsule. Also evident are clusters of cocci. H&E stain. This patient had cryptococcal skin lesions disseminated over the entire body with numerous ulcers and nodules. See also image W0047327.
