Translation of: 'La théorie des hallucinations', published in: La revue scientifique de la France et de l'etranger, 3rd series, 1 (1881), 138-142. The French paper is, in turn, a revised version of the original Italian publication: 'Sulla genesi delle allucinazioni', Rivista sperimentale di freniatria e di medicina legale, vi (1880), 126-158. The original paper was itself an abridged version of a lecture delivered in the Dept. of Mental Illness of the University of Modena, at the Reggio Asylum
