Description

Diary of a tour to Egypt and Palestine, from 6th December, 1856 to 30th May, 1857. Author's holograph MS. The account of the tour begins with the departure from Naples, and ends with the author's return to Thorne in Yorkshire. In the course of the journey, Dickinson's wife died of fever at Jaffa on 9th April 1857, and was buried on Mount Zion at Jerusalem in the English cemetery.

Biographical note

Joseph Dickinson was M.D. of Trinity College, Dublin in 1843, and elected F.R.S. in 1854. He practised in Liverpool. (see the Dictionary of National Biography).
