The disabled century. Part 2, 1945-1969.

The second in a three-part series which looks back over the last one hundred years of disability. This part begins with accounts from those who were patients in the Guinea Pig Club where plastic surgery was used to treat World War Two casualties. Many disabled children were permanently hospitalised and they speak of how difficult it was in those conditions and how tragically mistreated they were. Louise Medus-Mansell and Mat Fraser describe their lives as thalidomide children - Louise describing life as a permanent inmate at Chailey Heritage Craft School and Hospital and they way in which prosthetic limbs were forced upon them. Other disabled people talk about their search for a job and the discrimination shown to them at the time.
