About this work

Description

This film looks at teenage sexuality in Canada in the mid-1970s. Teenagers discuss their attitudes to sex and contraception in a group setting. Dr. Marion Powell, Director of Population Unit, School of Hygiene, University of Toronto, describes how teenagers view sex and contraception in this decade and Dr. Carolyn Pellettier, who lectures on different kinds of birth control, says she is surprised how inadvised most of the teenagers she encounters are. A group of teenaged pregnant girls talk about their situation, while psychiatrist Dr. Merville O Vincent, Superintendent at Homeward Sanitarium, Guelph, Ontario, suggests that waiting until after marriage to begin a sexual relationship is still a realistic option. Two Christian teenagers describe how they are going to wait until they are married before they explore their sexuality. One young woman talks about her pregnancy, birth, and how she gave up her child for adoption
