About this work

Description

As The House of Lords prepare to debate a Bill that would legalise physician-assisted suicide, which 80% of the public support, Steve Bradshaw reports on the pros and cons of such a Bill. We hear snippets of a public debate, interspersed with accounts from individuals for and against assisted suicide. We revisit the Diane Pretty case and hear from her husband Brian. Gill Gerhardi, a woman with cerebral palsy who also has multiple sclerosis describes why she is adamantly against the Bill. Sophie Pandit's mother Dr. Anne Turner travelled to Switzerland, where the laws on assisted suicide are different, in order to have an assisted suicide. Sophie believes that her mother would have lived longer had she been able to take her life in this country. At the end of the debate the majority of the audience are against assisted suicide.
