    EXTRACT FROM THE BULLETIN OF THE PARIS ACADEMY OF MEDICINE (Yol. IY, No. 10). REPORT MADE TO THE ACADEMY OF MEDICINE ON THE USE OF GELIS AND CONTE’S dragees OF LACTATE OF IRON. BY A COMMITTEE COMPOSED OF Drs. Fouquier. Professor of Clinics to the Faculty of Medicine of Paris; Bally, President of the Academy, and Physician to the Hospitals; Bouillaud, Professor of Clinics to the Faculty of Medicine of Paris, Reporter. « Gentlemen, » The Academy having appointed us (Drs. Bally, Fouquier, and my- self) to report on a memorial presented by Messrs. Gelis and Conte on the use of the Lactate of Iron, we now proceed to the performance of the task confided to us. » Yon are all aware, Gentlemen, that Iron is one of those medicines, which in] certain well-defined cases have so fully proved their virtues, that it is quite impossible to doubt their efficacy. In this Beport there- fore, we have not to discuss the therapeutic action of Iron or Steel, since no practitioner can entertain a doubt upon that subject. The only ques- tion we have to examine is, whether the new preparation of Iron pro- posed by Messrs. Gelis and Conte really possesses the qualities they ascribe to it, and whether it can he advantageously employed in practice. » The ferruginous preparations already recommended are rather nu- merous, and it is highly probable that we shall see many more yet. Not long since you heard an excellent Beport from our colleague. Dr. Martin- Solon, on Mr. Yallet’s Pills, which most members of the Academy have had frequent occasion to employ with advantage. We may say the same of Mr. Blaud’s Pills, wich have long been held in high esteem. At first
