About this work

Description

Thymbra or Thymbre was a town near Troy. It is here named Halil-Eli; in Turkish it is Thimbrek-Déré. It had a large temple of Apollo (Apollo Thymbraios). The print shows the remains of Doric columns around a few trees in the plain of Thymbra. Thymbra is the place where Laocoön and his sons (one of them called Thymbraeus) were said to have been killed by sea-snakes
