Description

Mogarineïdes seu de yasmino Indico, vulgo Mogarino cordis dicto, Odae XIV. His accesserunt ad Joannem Freind medicum Anglum et ad Franciscum Manning Anglum, Odae duae. [Followed by] Odae ad proceres Anglos. In the last section, though addressed 'Ad proceres Anglos', three out of the four poems are addressed to 'Henricus de Nova Villa', i.e. Sir Henry Newton [1651-1715], who was Envoy Extraordinary to Florence from 1704-1709. The last ode is addressed to John Lord Somers [1651-1716], who was Lord Chancellor of England in 1697.

1 volume 5 ll. (first 3 bl.). + 59 pp. + 14 ll. (last bl.). 4to. 221/2 × 17 cm. Original calf binding worn. The title-page is slightly defective, and mounted. Title within a pen-drawn border.

Purchased 1929.

Biographical note

The author was a distinguished poet and lawyer of Pisa, and a senator of that city in 1763. He was also a member of both the Academia degli Arcadi and of the Academia della Crusca.
