Description

A compilation of short films by French director Jean Painleve. Painleve made over 200 films combining scientific research with avant garde film-making tecnniques. Some of his favourite themes were radiography and aquatic life and the films have film scores by contemporary musicians from the time such as Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong and Pierre Henry. Titles include: Mathusalem, 1927 (10 min.); Hyas et Stenorinques, 1929 (10 min.); L'Hippocampe, 1934 (13 min.); Barbe Bleue, 1938, (13 min.); Le Vampire, 1939-1945 (9 min.); Oursins, 1954 (10 min.); Histoires de Crevettes, 1964 (10 min.); Les Amours de la Pieuvre, 1965 (13 min.); Acera ou le Bal des Sorcieres, 1972 (13 min.); Cristaux Liquides, 1978 (7 min.).
