About this work

Description

This image is of a strand of hair from an Asian gentleman. It is a lot thicker than Caucasian hair when examined at the same magnification. The hair is made up of three layers, the inner medulla, the cortex (which makes up 90% of the total weight of the hair) and the outer cuticle, shown here with small scales of overlapping cells, which act to protect the cortex.
