About this work

Description

Histopathology of the lung This high power view of the lung is from an autopsy of a child with falciparum malaria. The alveolar spaces are filled with pale pink-staining proteinaceous oedema fluid. The vessels in the alveolar walls are congested. There is an increase in chronic inflammatory cells in the alveolar walls indicating a mild pneumonitis. This is frequently seen in the lungs of children dying of malaria. H&E stain.
