About this work

Description

Initially an ad-hoc committee to consider the Government's White Paper issued in 1965. It was also called the Sub-Committee on the Family Services White Paper, and the Family Services Sub-Committee. It drew up a questionnaire, sent to MOHs of county councils, county boroughs and the new London boroughs, to collect facts about the preventive services provided by health and education departments. This information was to contribute to a memorandum on the White Paper. Following on from the White Paper, at the end of 1965 the Government appointed the independent Family Services (Seebohm) Committee, 'to review the organisation and responsibilities of the local authority personal social services in England and Wales, and to consider what changes are desirable to secure an effective family service'. The Society's memorandum on the White Paper became its evidence to the Seebohm Committee, Jul 1966. (The Society also provided comments on the Seebohm Report).
