About this work

Description

This series examines society's treatment of physically disabled children and adults during the first half of this century. Witnesses recall their experiences of childhood disability and their accounts are illustrated by archive film. "Part 2: Another World"Disabled children placed in institutions were called by numbers instead of names, parental visits were rare, and discipline dominated at the expense of all else. Archive newsreel film conveys the limited understanding of the world outside and the inmates' sense of isolation.
