Description
Identified in the British Museum online catalogue as Juno standing at a doorway, opening the door, confiding Io to the custody of Argus. According to her myth, Io was transformed into a cow by Zeus in order to hide her from Juno. Juno then entrusted her to Argus to guard her from Zeus. For some reason the man identified as the shepherd Argus is not shown as having a hundred eyes and is dressed as a warrior, while a shepherd waits with his sheep in the right background.
