About this work
Description
Investigates attitudes to AIDS in Sweden and Ireland, reflected in the measures taken by these countries to halt the spread of the disease and protect healthworkers. Under the Swedish Communicable Diseases Act, HIV+ people may be detained. In Ireland, hospital patients who die of AIDS-related illnesses are buried in body-bags, so that their families are deprived of the wake, the traditional way of mourning. The programme also visits Amsterdam where AIDS activists protest that the media has created a scenario where AIDS is directly related to death.
