The firft experiment was inftituted in the prefence of Mr. Glover, Mr. Farmer, Mr. Boys, yourfelf, and feveral other Gen- tlemen, upon a large ilrong calf about two months old; I made an incifion on the in- fide of the thigh, high up towards the groin, and carefully diffefted down to the femoral artery, which I opened. The hasmorrhage was profufe, and a piece of lint well im- brued in the liquid was applied to the ar- tery, and kept therefor a few minutes with the finger; in the mean while, the liquid was applied to feveral of the collateral branches, which bled very freely. In a ihort time the finger was removed, not- withftanding which no blood appeared to ilTue either from the trunk, or the col- lateral branches.
