    Apparatus for Separating the Liquid from the Solid Portions of Fecal Matters. (This Invention received Provisional Protection only.) PEOVISIONAL SPECIFICATION left by Gabriel Prax at the Office of the Commissioners of Patents, with his Petition, on the 17th September 1868. 0 I, Gabriel Prax, of Paris (France), Manufacturer, do hereby declare the 5 nature of the said Invention for “ Improvements in Apparatus for Separating THE Liquid from the Solid Portions of Fecal Matters,” to be as follows:— The Invention relates to a moveable apparatus to be applied to the pipe, by which the fecal matters from water-closets are conducted to the sewers, thereby allowing the liquid portions only to run off in the sewers, whereas the 10 solid parts remain in the apparatus, which latter, when sufficiently filled, may be removed and replaced by an empty one. The apparatus consists of a vessel of any suitable material, form, or size to allow of being easely moveable; on the upper part a lid is fitted air-tight, in the centre of which glides a tube for connecting the vessel with the pipe, by which the fecal matters descend 15 from the water-closet to the sewers; this tube conducts the matters in the interior of the vessel, in which latter is fitted a vertical division plate perforated with suitable holes for allowing the liquids to run off through a pipe provided at the bottom of the vessel, which pipe may be connected with a fixed pipe for conducting the liquids in the sewer.
