Cosmetics

Collection of receipts in Italian for perfumes, scents, soaps, etc. With additions by early 19th cent. hands of a few inserted medical and miscellaneous receipts. There are ten inserted receipts pasted down on blank leaves, written in late 17th and early 18th cent. hands. One on the verso of the second leaf from the end is dated 1723.

1 volume 92 ll. + 64 bl. ll. + 7 ll. 4to. 191/2 x 14 cm. Original vellum covers from a folio leaf of a 15th cent. Latin MS. of the apocryphal Acts of St. Bartholomew. Some leaves have been cut out the beginning and end of the volume. The first two sections have each an ornamental pen-drawn initial: in other sections the initial has not been supplied.
