About this work

Description

A social and medical comparison between AIDS and syphilis, Showing how particular groups or classes in each case were charged with responsibility for spreading the disease. There is a discussion of whether the Government should target everyone in AIDS awareness campaigns or select specific groups. Contains interesting archive and clinical footage and the film makes good use of its 20 minutes to present a sharply focused medical/social/historical picture of attitudes and reactions to epidemics. With Prof. Julian Peto (Institute of Cancer Research), Dr. Virginia Berridge (London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine) and others.
