About this work

Description

Professor Steven Rose, Professor of Biology at the Open University and author of 'Brainbox', has written a book about the brain for children. As a young boy he was taught to trust in God to explain all life's mysteries. But he also read many scientific books which offered explanations about human evolution and the creation of the earth and the planets. He became interested in the activities of the brain after finishing his degree in Chemistry at university. He discovered that memory was created in the brain, which made connections through billions of nerve cells that are held together by special molecules called proteins. In Alzeimer's disease, the special molecules were missing. Professor Rose concludes by saying that memory is only a small part of the brain, and hoped that future scientists would be able to understand the more complex activities of the brain and its relation to the mind.
