The Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) is a federal government agency belonging to the U.S. Department of Justice. The Bureau of Justice Statistics was established on 27 December 1979 uder the Justic Systems Improvemnt Act of 1979. It is a component of the Office of Justice Programmes in the US Depatrtment of Justice.
