About this work

Description

A ward in Queen Mary's Hospital, Roehampton, where the artist was a patient for hip replacement. In the centre, a group of doctors attend to a trolley of equipment for clinical tests: the houseman (female) on the right and the consultant (male) seen from behind on the left. The tests were conducted daily, hence the words "Routine inspection" pencilled by the artist on the sheet
