This video describes the research partnership that has been built up between the Southampton group and researchers in India - the aim being to understand how the nutrition and health of a mother affects the growth of her baby before birth, and its health throughout life. Recent research at the Medical Research Council Epidemiology Unit, University of Southampton, has shown that men and women who had low birthweight are at a greater risk of developing coronary heart disease in later life. the research suggest that coronary disease is a legacy of under-nutrition of the baby before birth.
