About this work

Description

Burroughs Wellcome & Co. desk/hanging calendar illlustrated with tales of folklore. Includes advertisements for Wellcome products.

This calendar contains Irish folklore tales which have been taken from: S. O'Suilleabhain, A Handbook of Irish Folklore and Medicine in Antient Erin, a Burroughs Wellcome & Co. publication from 1909.

Examples of the folklore included are: a cure for a sore throat (which involved rubbing roast potatoes into the sufferer's head), and a cure for mumps and whooping cough, which it was believed could be obtained from a man on horseback (as men on horseback were thought to possess special curative powers).
