About this work

Description

Amoebiasis: histopathology of the rectum This is a medium power view of rectal mucosa. It shows an early erosion. The surface epithelium is partially denuded and covered with a necrotic slough (top). The slough contains numerous red-staining amoebae. Note the lack of acute inflammation within the mucosal crypts. This is a key difference between the histopathology of amoebiasis in contrast to ulcerative colitis and bacterial colitis. H&E stain. See also image W0045950.
