An episode described by Réau, loc. cit.: having refused to sacrifice to the gods, Cecilia is condemned to die through suffocation by the steam in an overheated caldarium, but she survives. A lictor, ordered to behead her, fails to do so after three blows of the sword. She survives a further three days in one of the Thermae at Rome, before expiring in the presence of Pope Urban (Urban I?)
