About this work

Description

Ground covering, sticky-leafed plant with whorls of elliptical leaves. Red dye obtained from the rhizome. Crushed plant has been used in poultices to treat skin complaints. Has also been eaten as a vegetable or in soups. Used in homeopathy; once reputed to have anti-cancer properties.
