Description

Schistosomiasis due to Schistosoma sp: histopathology of the spinal cord This is a medium power view of a section of spinal cord from a patient with schistosomal myelitis. H&E stain. The image shows schistosome eggs surrounded by eosinophils and a granulomatous inflammatory reaction. There is considerable disruption and inflammation of the peripheral spinal cord tissue. The patient presented with paraplegia and at operation was found to have a necrotic lesion in the thoracic spinal cord.
