Description

Life cycle of trypanosome This digitally-coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) shows a bloodstream form of a trypanosome (yellow) among host (in this case, mouse) red blood cells (red). Here, the trypanosome has two flagella, suggesting that it is in the process of dividing. The sample was prepared by fixing cultures with 2% glutaraldehyde and then dried using CO2.
