Interview with Alex Douglas conducted by Paula Testa. Douglas was originally attracted to One and Other because of its emphasis on inclusive. He also thought that he would have a good chance of being allocated a spot because he thought that not many people from his home county of Yorkshire would apply. On the plinth he is mimicking a series of poses of well-known people: a mix of statues, TV personalities and personal friends. Post One and Other, he will be producing a short film about his experience on the plinth. His parents, who live in Bangkok, will be watching via the internet, as will his teenage sister who is staying at home because it's a school night. He was slightly anxious that people would be jaded as One and Other has been running for a few weeks now and sees the project as a bit of a human zoo with an implicit voyeur aspect. He also describes his time on the plinth as being quite selfish and ' just a bit of a laugh' as he isn't trying to raise awareness for a charity etc. Douglas also discusses how he rejected his originally career choice in advertising in favour of spending a year in Argentina teaching English, and is now going back to university to study politics and education. He hopes to go back to South America and develop a career in educational policies whilst learning Spanish.
