According to the onlline catalogue of AKG images, the work shows the burning of the priest Markus Antonius de Dominis (Markantun de Dominis), Archbishop of Spalato. However de Dominis died a natural death while imprisoned for heresy in Castel Sant' Angelo, Rome, after which his corpse was burned in the Campo de' Fiori, Rome
