About this work

Description

Tells the story of the birth of the moving image with many archive film clips to illustrate significant developments in the history of film. Scientific and medical film was in the forefront of these advances, as is shown by clips from Louis Doyen's turn of the century films of the amputation of a foot and of an induced fit; while Stow's "The Unclean World"(1903) pioneered the technique of filming through the microscope, bringing to life a world hitherto unseen except by scientists.
