About this work

Description

Ink and brush drawing from a handwritten copy of the anonymous text Dingchuang yaojue (Essential Art of Boils), executed in 1874 (13th year of the Tongzhi reign period of the Qing dynasty). Fanchao ding ('passing rice' boil) occurs on the shoulder blade. It is treated with needling and opening (tiaoci) at the yanwo (Swallow's nest) and lianggu (Grain Bone) locations. Leitang ding (Hall of Tears - opening of the tear duct - boil) occurs at the corner of the eye and the root of the nose. It is treated with needling and opening at the qiwo (nest of Qi) location. Fanchun ding (boil in the curve of the lip) occurs on the lower lip. It is treated with needling and opening at the tip of the big toe.
