Biographical note
Alderson, John (1757-1829), physician, born in Suffolk. He studied medicine at Edinburgh University. Alderson was appointed physician at Hull General Infirmary in 1792. In 1814, he founded the Sculcoates refuge for the insane. He died in 1829. A full description of his life and work is to be found in the Dictionary of National Biography.
