About this work
Description
This documentary looks at the troubling rise in suicide rates among young men. Musician Leigh Kenny has attempted suicide on numerous occasions and he talks about the reasons for this. Lee McCabe was 22 when he hung himself, largely due to mounting debts and no employment. 18-year-old Mark Edgell killed himself despite seeming to be an extremely happy. Leon Tomlinson was 25 when he suffered a sudden psychotic episode which led to his suicide a short time later. The programme explores why suicides are so common among young men and reaches a few possible conclusions such as unemployment, divorce, alcohol and drug misuse, the lack of ability or occasion to discuss their worries and undetected mental illness.
