22 August, 1918. An Agreement between London County Council and Henry Solomon Wellcome trading as Messrs Burroughs Wellcome & Co.

Extract: "If on the Twenty-ninth day of September One thousand nine hundred and Twenty-two Henry Solomon Wellcome shall have been prevented by reason of the continued existence of the war or of matters arising out of war and by reason of his still being engaged on work of national importance whereby he shall have been prevented in providing for himself substituted accommodation on other land Henry Solomon Wellcome is to be at liberty before the Twenty-ninth day of September One thousand nine hundred and twenty two to request the Council to lease the said premises to him for a further period from Twenty ninth day of September One thousand nine hundred and Twenty two and the Council are to take into consideration all the circumstances of the case during the whole continuance of the war and may grant a lease to Henry Solomon Wellcome for such further term as the Council in their unfettered discretion shall consider reasonable and proper...."

"The Council are in the Bill which they are about to promote in Parliament for this and other purposes to seek and use their best endeavours to obtain power to grant a lease or leases to Henry Solomon Wellcome for a term or terms of years which shall not exceed Seven years from the Twenty-ninth day of September One thousand nine hundred and ninteen."
