Description

False-colour scanning electron micrograph of hairs from the head of a bumble bee (Bombus). The hairs have a branching structure which is thought to give better pollen collection. Bees are important pollinators and play a crucial role in maintaining our environment, promoting the growth of crops and flowers many of which directly impact on our own health and wellbeing. Width of image is 570 micrometres.
