He will not, therefore, intrude on the time or patience of the reader by a lengthy introduction, or a laboured panegyric of that, whofe fate he withes to be decided by a public examination, and whofe merit muft appear when thus reduced to the ordeal to which any individual may fubjeCt it, by applying for the Chemical British Japan Ink Powder, agreeable to the reference given at the clofe of this profpeCtus. The unprecedented durability of the Ink made from thefe Powders is but one of the many excellent properties with which it is endued ; without being; clogged or overloaded with a clammy gloffinefs, it pofleftes an intenfe degree of blacknefs, and a becoming luftre, aiid is not liable to be affeCted by any variety of climate or of feafon; nor does it l'often the quill, or clog the nib of the pen like the Ink which is generally ufed to obviate thefe defeCts; they are frequently made lo thin as to fall fpontaneoully from the pen, or in con- fequence they link lb deep into the paper, as to form a very unpleafant'appearance on the reverfe. f ■ ■ t* • * i The Ink alfo which has heretofore been made for public fervice, is frequently, at firft ufmg, fo faint or pale, as hardly to be legible; or if it-has become black afterwards, or has ever appeared. fo at the time of writing, a fpeedy altera¬ tion to*a rufty. brown or iron-mould complexion has exhi¬ bited a.jrmoll unfeemly appearance, efpecially in ledgers, records, teftamentary and other writings, whofe prefervation is generally a circumftance of the utmoft confequence. The commercial and profeffional part of the community require but few arguments to convince them how much a good Writing Ink is needed; and a little reflexion will convince even individuals, in the private walks of life, that the perma¬ nency of their manufcripts is of much importance to thofe who fet a due value on the epiftolary favours which they derive by a communication with abfent andfar-diftant friends, whofe fentimental effulions muft be enhanced in proportion as they are enabled, by art and fcience, to withftand the effects of time;—for the want of fuch an aid, how many valuable difcoveries have long lince been buried in oblivion, how have the treafures of friendfhip gradually and irreco¬ verably faded under the eye of furviving relatives, and tranf- a&ions of the utmoft moment been involved in doubt and intricacy! As
