About this work

Description

This is the second in a six-part series which uses cutting edge computer graphics and rare footage to show how the body fights for survival against the odds of trauma, illness and accident. This part focuses on how a child's body fights the most severe events, beginning with 9-year-old James as he undergoes a heart transplant - this surgery is shown in great depth and includes many descriptions of what James's body is doing to conserve his life both during and after the surgery when he develops an infection. Gabriel, a 2-year-old boy falls from a train and suffers a head injury which may be causing bleeding inside his head and 12-year-old Aaron has a severe asthma attack. In both cases we see in much detail how the body fights the threat to its existence.
