The export of the medicinal plant, silphium, from Cyrenaica in the sixth century B.C. ... Lettering continues: "The silphium trade was the chief source of revenue to the city of Cyrene for several centuries. Bales of silphium are shown being weighed and packed in the hold of a ship in the presence of King Arcesilas. (Circa 580-550 B.C.)
