Description

Series describes a collection of material relating to Mary Maddox. Maddox was a pioneer of the orthoptic profession and the first woman in Great Britain working in a medical auxiliary capacity to practise orthoptics, She was trained by her father, Ernest E. Maddox and started her own practice in London in the early 1920's. In 1928 Maddox opened her first hospital clinic at the Royal Westminster Hospital. The Collection includes the papers of Mary Maddox which contain teaching notes; scrap books, certificates, reference books, and correspondence with colleagues and patients. Also included in this ccollection is Maddox equipment relating to Mary's father, Ernest Maddox, who was an Ophthamologist; Hamblin's steroscope pictures and charts.
