After a drawing in the same direction in the Royal Collection, Windsor (catalogue no. RCIN 902335), drawin in preparation for an altarpiece formerly in the Cappella Salviati in the church of S. Gregorio al Celio in Rome. The painting passed to Bridgewater House in London, where it was destroyed in World War II
