About this work

Description

Commonplace book. Compiler's holograph MS. The volume was originally intended to be a legal commonplace book, and legal headings run through the whole of the MS. There are however, few legal entries, and it seems to have been used by Norton, whose name and the date 1725 are found on the first leaf 'Sum ex libris Josephi Norton Esq.', as a general commonplace book. There is a lengthy set of entries headed 'Health' and numerous others of medical interest in other parts of the MS. There are also many entries containing religious and theological controversial matter. The latest date is 1780 on the last leaf of the volume, pasted down on to the lower cover.
