    Kingsbridge & District Cottage Hospital -♦- 30th ANNUAL REPORT June 1st, 1927, to May 31st, 1928. It is with a sense of some satisfaction that the Committee present the 30th Annual Report for the year ending 31st May, 1928, and first wish to thank all who have so generously contributed to the Funds both for upkeep and building, and for many gifts in kind on Pound Day, and at other times throughout the year. The year has been specially memorable in that the Committee had received such support to the Building Fund that it was decided to call for tenders for the erection of the New Hospital, with a good hope that it might be completed and opened clear of debt. When the tenders were received it was found that the quotation given by a local firm, Messrs. Camp and Murch, of Salcombe, though not the lowest, was likely to prove the most satisfactory, and a contract was entered into in March, 1928, for the work to be put in hand at the beginning of April and completed by 31st March, 1929, at a cost of ^9,582. The progress of the work has been very satisfactory, and arrange¬ ments were made for the Foundation Stone to be formally laid b}^ the Earl of Devon on June 14th. The Current Account shows a credit balance of £77 16s. 5d. as against an opening credit balance of £89 18s. lid. Subscriptions amounted to /224 Os. 9d. ; Patients’ payments other than those received through Provident Funds were £233 19s. 8d. From the Kingsbridge Hospital Penny Fund £95 8s. 4d. was received on account of 24 patients and from other Provident Funds, ^65 5s. lOd. for 17 patients. During the year the Investments and Credit Balance of the Kings¬ bridge Invalid Trust Fund amounting to ^2,444 14s. 4d. were transferred to the Trustees of the Hospital under an order of the Charity Com¬ missioners. The Invalid Fund will remain as an addition to the Endowment Fund provided that the full amount required to pay for the New Hospital is obtained from other sources.
