The following description was provided by James Gardiner: "They are drinking from the same bottle through tubes inserted into the top of the bottle. At the time when this card was produced, at the beginning of the twentieth century, it was still commonplace for men to share beds for reasons of economy, and there would have been no 'gay' inferences to be drawn."
